Day Gardner

Day Gardner made history as the first black woman to be named as a semi-finalist of the internationally renowned Miss America Pageant. Formerly a professional singer, dancer, and actress, she traveled throughout the United States and abroad starring in many extravagant stage and production shows.

During one of her overseas engagements, Ms. Gardner established the Guam based Lipford Corporation, which provided project design and development services for numerous hotel, entertainment and resort projects. As president and director, her main achievement was the design of the "Sandcastle" entertainment complex, consisting of a $36 million dinner theater and nightclub facility. She even created and co-produced the complex's first stage production, titled "American Glitz," a Las Vegas style extravaganza.

Ms. Gardner then hosted a primetime program with KUAM Broadcasting in Ordot, Guam, featuring international and local celebrities and events. Also serving as media consultant, she developed accounts with and produced commercials for such clients as Proctor and Gamble, McDonalds, and Pepsi.

In 1998, Ms. Gardner was an on-air personality and producer with African Broadcasting at the World Trade Center in New York City.

Ms. Gardner has been actively involved in a number of charities. She has worked with mentally disabled and homeless in Atlantic County, New Jersey; spearheaded an annual toy and clothing drive for needy families; supported public television and served as volunteer co-host for New Jersey Network's fund-raising drives.

In 1999, Ms. Gardner relocated to Bowie, Maryland, and became actively involved with Georgetown University Medical Center's Diabetes Research and Education Program as a volunteer fund-raising coordinator.

Ms. Gardner began 2002 as a scheduler for a Maryland County Council candidate and later entered her bid for a seat in the Maryland State Legislature. Those who endorsed her included The Washington Post, The Gazzette, BAMPAC and numerous pro-life organizations.

A wife and mother, Ms. Gardner has recently written two books and hopes to have them published very soon.
